Thanks to Those Who Served

Today is Veteran's Day, the day set apart for honoring those who served our nation in the Armed Forces and those who continue to serve. In previous days of war, our populace was acutely aware that the United States was at war. In the days since 9-11, we have been at war on multiple fronts but the society seems not to be aware. We continue to go about our days and don't think of the men and women sacrificing for our freedom.

I hope this Veteran's Day we have all taken a few moments to remember all those who have served. I also hope we take are reminded everyday of the year that there are thousands upon thousands of volunteers making up our Armed Forces, keeping our nation safe and free. I hope we will take part of our prayer time each day to remember these brave men and women. Each Thursday I make part of my focused prayer for the men and women in the Armed Forces. I ask God to remind me and my church of this great sacrifice. Thank you all who served and thank you who continue to serve. Let us not forget to pray for the families of the men and women killed in war. Let us pray for peace and know that only Christ the final Peacemaker will establish peace for all eternity!

Importance of Internet Accountability (Again)

Those of you have read this blog, or any of my previous attempts at blogging will recognized this post. Once again I want to shout it from the mountaintop that every Christian should be using an Internet accountability, filtering program, or some combination thereof. Every person should be for that matter, but I approach this from a faith perspective and a pastoral perspective. My heart breaks week after week as I hear about families destroyed by internet pornography and the affairs that it leads to.

The Internet, with all it's wonder and usefulness, is also a dangerous place. A very dangerous place.

I cannot imagine my daily life without the use of the Internet and its conveniences. But it's just that conveniences. If I didn't use Covenant Eyes and have multiple accountability partners, I would not have access to the Internet, period. I enjoy being able to pay all my bills online and never write a check. I enjoy being able to listen to pod casts of all my favorite preachers. I enjoy keeping up with friends on Facebook. The Internet truly amazes me. I am thankful that there are millions of websites concerned with sharing the life changing Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our congregation (I hope every Southern Baptist Congregation) will be participating in findithere.com leading up to Easter Sunday 2010. I am so excited!

But in the midst of all the good that the Internet has, there lurks a demonic den of evil. It includes pornography, hate, gambling, drugs, and everything else imaginable. The evils of the Internet are such that every Christian husband and father must protect himself and his family. How does he do that:

1) Be honest that every Christian is vulnerable to temptation. Take strong steps to draw a line in a sand that you will not cross!

2) Have multiple accountability partners to keep you honest and growing in the grace of the Lord.

3) Use Internet filtering, accountability software or a combination of both. I have used Covenant Eyes for years and believe it is the best. There are many other good software applications for this. There is no excuse not to have one! You can get accountability and filtering with Covenant Eyes. I am mystified as to why so many pastors refuse to be obedient to be accountable in this area. I am also mystified to the number of pastors who destroy their families, testimonies, and lives with extramarital affair. Maybe some connection????

Bottom line, pastor, Christian husband: Get Internet accountability today. It is not an option!

Thanks for reading and have a great day!
